CASE STUDY

PROTOTYPING A NEW PRODUCT

How a new label process reduced total cost of ownership by 25%

OUR CHALLENGE

Our customer, a major manufacturer of automotive steering and suspension components, came to us with a label management nightmare. Their current label supplier wasn’t TS16949 automotive quality management certified, even though their automotive OEM customers required it. They were buying too many labels, and wanted to reduce their cost. Since their supplier wasn’t storing their labels properly, they were also experiencing significant inventory loss and poor label performance.

OUR SOLUTION

We analyzed our customer’s label management process, identifying opportunities to reduce their total cost of ownership. As part of the assessment, we asked for samples, specifications and annual usage, and conducted an on-site visit to see where they store, access and apply all labels.Through careful purchasing analysis, we reduced total cost of ownership by 25% using a batch processing strategy. We also reduced on-site label inventory through a quickstep program from our Monterrey, Mexico location. Since we’re TS16949 certified and test to all automotive specifications, we were able to help our customer meet strict standards for label performance and durability.
